Gertrude Gates
Gertrude Gates, 79,
of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Lincoln, died at noon Wednesday, Sept.
25, 2002, at Odyssey Hospice in Tucson.
Her funeral service
will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Robert Henderson officiating.
There is no visitation.
Burial will be in
Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Mrs. Gates was a
retired cook.
She was born March 7,
1923, in Lincoln to Charles and Grace Jones Hoblit. She married
Burton M. Gates Sr. on June 29, 1940, in Chicago. He died April 28,
1995.
Surviving are one
daughter, Sandra Gates of Tucson, Ariz.; one son, Robert Gates of
Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded
in death by one son, Burton Gates Jr.
Mrs. Gates was a
loving wife, mother and grandmother and a wonderful homemaker. She
will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mary Cheek
Mary Lucille Cheek, 84, of Farmer City
died at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at LeRoy Manor in LeRoy.
There will be no funeral service.
Mrs. Cheek’s body was donated to
science and will be buried later in McLean Cemetery.
Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta handled
arrangements.
Mrs. Cheek was a housewife and worked
more than 20 years at the Eureka Williams Corporation in
Bloomington.
She was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Kentucky
to John R. and Elizabeth Hughes Barlow.
Survivors include two
daughters, Beverly A. Stewart of Fort Myers, Fla., and Vera J. Cheek
of Farmer City; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and
one sister, Edith Hartsock of Farmer City.
She was preceded in
death by one brother and two sisters.
She was raised in the
McLean and Bloomington area and graduated from McLean High School.
She was a member of the LeRoy Christian
Church.
