To the
editor:
On Christmas Eve, at approximately 4:30 p.m., there
was a traffic accident in Mount Pulaski, which caused a power outage for the
north 75 percent of town. Immediately our telephones started ringing from
various churches wanting to know when the power would be restored because they
had Christmas Eve Services scheduled.
My first call was to Lisa Funk. Lisa has been my
"go to" person for quite some time, especially when we have a problem. Lisa was
out of town on vacation, yet she returned my call and assisted with obtaining
information concerning the outage. I was extremely impressed with her dedication
in assisting us, even while she was on vacation.
The initial reports concerning the outage were not
very good. Because of the holiday situation and the fact that initially we
thought a power pole would have to be replaced, we were advised that the outage
could last from six to eight hours. However, there were several people who came
to our rescue and repaired the problem in a much shorter time.

Helen Cox called me and advised that people from
Lincoln and Springfield would be arriving in Mount Pulaski shortly to work on
the problem. Shortly after talking to Helen, the Mount Pulaski Fire Department
reported that CILCO was already on scene. Mr. Kevin Ritchhart had started with
repairs and was awaiting the crew from Springfield for additional help. Mr. Tim
Stout, Wes Heckman and John McCray assisted Mr. Ritchhart, and the power was
restored at 7 p.m. The outage was caused by a broken wire.
On behalf of the mayor and city council of Mount
Pulaski, I wish to acknowledge the fine work and dedication of the people named
above who came to our rescue on Christmas Eve. Because of their dedication, some
Christmas Eve Services were held, and local celebrations were also saved. Thank
you one and all for a great job! We really appreciated your efforts.
