To the editor:
Last Friday, on Jan. 10, 2003, my son
was on his way to work and had planned to ride his bike since his
truck is not running. But when he got out to the garage he noticed
it was gone.
We have yet to report this to the
police as this is the third time it has been taken. The garage is
near an alley behind the house at 1012 Clinton St. This bike is a
Roadmaster with one of the brakes not in working order and the seat
torn.
If the person who reads this is the
person who took my son's bike, I ask that you return it and the
police will not be called. We will give you two weeks and we forgive
you. By the end of two weeks, if it is not returned, then the police
will be called upon. Of all the things that are in our garage to
take, why my son's bike?

To the editor:
On Dec. 10, 2002,
high school students from the REALITY Illinois Teen Coalition of
Logan County participated in a project, Operation Storefront, where
we visited 18 tobacco vendors in Lincoln to learn about tobacco
advertising in Logan County. We would like to thank the stores that
participated and helped us learn about tobacco advertising. Thanks
to Thornton's, Wal-Mart, Eagle Discount Foods, Ayerco, Clark,
Kroger, Discount Tobacco, Qik-n-EZ, Walgreens, Fifth Street Food
Market, Quick Way Foods, Green Oil, Apollo Mart, IGA, CVS, Bruns
Service Center and Casey's General Store.
In the three years that this
project has been done, we have seen less and less tobacco advertising in the
Logan County businesses. We see more and more anti-tobacco warnings in the
stores. Thank you. We are pleased to see that most stores have cigarettes behind
the counter. But how about putting chewing tobacco and cigars behind the counter
also?

We appreciate all the businesses
that are trying to prevent youth access to tobacco. Tobacco companies are
spending $190 every second to get youth to smoke! Logan County businesses care
about us!
