Robert Wheeler

Robert S. Wheeler, 78, of Atlanta died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at 3:26 p.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

Mr. Wheeler will be cremated, and there will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta.

Mr. Wheeler was a mechanic for the Schmidt Implement Company in Atlanta for several years before his retirement.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born Jan. 3, 1925, at Farmer City to Donald and Christa Hughes Wheeler. He married Alberta Bailey on July 20, 1947, at Farmer City. She survives.

Also surviving are five children, Robert Lynn Wheeler (and Dee) of Mount Pulaski, Alice (and Mac) McCarthy of Lincoln, Janice (and Jim) Adye of Emden, Betty (and Jack) Renfrow of Atlanta and Mitch Wheeler of Bloomington; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Junior Wheeler and John Wheeler, both of Middletown, Ohio, and Lester Wheeler of Jamestown, Ohio; four sisters, Mabel Ester of Mansfield, Marjorie Monaghan of Farmer City, Gerie Whitt of Franklin, Ohio, and Sandy Wheeler of Mansfield, Ohio.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family or to the Atlanta Rescue Squad.


Marian Taylor

Marian Hild Taylor, 75, formerly of Elmhurst and Mount Pulaski, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at 1:50 p.m. at Timber Pines Assisted Living Center in Spring Hill, Fla.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. Her funeral will follow at 2 p.m., with Bill Shanle officiating.

Burial will be in Steenbergen Cemetery, Mount Pulaski.

Mrs. Taylor retired from the engineering department at Vogel-Peterson in Elmhurst.

She was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Logan County to Ernst R. and Leah Irene Shellhammer Hild. She married William Taylor in Eureka on May 8, 1947.

Surviving are her husband, of Spring Hill, Fla.; one son, William (and Michele) Taylor Jr. of Cherry Hill, N.J.; one daughter, Marsha (and Daniel) Vanlandingham of The Woodlands, Texas; four grandchildren, Scott Vanlandingham, Lori Vanlandingham, Krista Taylor and William Taylor III; and one brother, J. Lee (and Leora) Hild of Mount Pulaski.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Episcopal Church in Elmhurst.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Memorials may be made to Hernando County Hospice, Brooksville, Fla.

Phyllis Young

Phyllis D. Young, 73, of Atlanta died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Hopedale Medical Complex in Hopedale.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Eminence Christian Church, rural Atlanta, with Andy Glass officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be in Mountjoy Cemetery, rural Atlanta.

Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Young was a licensed practical nurse. After 20 years of employment at Lincoln Developmental Center, she retired in 1995.

She was born Dec. 22, 1929, at Canton to M. Dean and Elizabeth Anne Shaw Frantz. She married Marion Young on June 21, 1947, at Atlanta. He died Aug. 28, 1997.

Surviving are three sons, Bob (and Carol) Young of Bourbonnais, Bruce (and Kerry) Young of Normal and Bill (and Bonnie) Young of Lincoln; one stepdaughter, Bonnie Sue (and Hebert) Pettigrew of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; one brother, Roger Frantz of McLean; and two sisters, Ruth Werschey of Decatur and Betty Cox of Lincoln.

She was a member of the Atlanta "A" Team, J.H. Hawes Grain Elevator Museum and the Atlanta Eminence Christian Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Paul Holmes

Paul L. Holmes, 85, of Lincoln, formerly of New Holland, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at 6:10 a.m. at Maple Ridge Health Care Centre.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at New Holland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug Rettig officiating.

Burial will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, rural New Holland.

Mr. Holmes retired from C.C. Hawes Implement Co. in New Holland and had farmed in Corwin Township.

He was born July 25, 1917, in Filmore to Harry C. and Minnie Brune Holmes. He married Velma Halstead on Dec. 14, 1941, in Mount Pulaski.

Surviving are his wife, of Lincoln; one son, Richard (and Jamie) Holmes of New Holland; three daughters, Janet (and Gary) Heyen of Alexander, Patricia (and Herb) Higgs of Lubbock, Texas, and Vicki (and Alan) Detmers of Williamsville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

He was a member of the New Holland United Methodist Church.

He was raised in the Odd Fellows Home and was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to New Holland United Methodist Church, the nursing staff at Maple Ridge Care Centre or Hospice Care of Illinois.
