Benefit for cancer patient    

[JULY 15, 2003]  Friends and area churches are organizing a benefit dinner to assist with medical expenses for Janet Christian, who will receive a stem cell transplant at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

The dinner will be on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hartsburg-Emden High School cafeteria.

The menu features pork barbecue sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, applesauce, dessert and drink. There's also a menu for kids, and carry-outs are available. Donations will be accepted for the meal.

Benefit proceeds will be matched by Thrivent Financial.

Donations to the family are also being accepted at Farmers State Bank of Emden, where a medical fund has been established.
