Verancia 'Nana' Denton

Verancia M. "Nana" Denton, 94, of San Jose died Friday (July 25, 2003) at 11:20 p.m. at Pekin Hospital.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hurley Funeral Home in San Jose, with the Rev. Allen Payne officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Kilbourne Cemetery.

Mrs. Denton was a homemaker for her family.

She was born May 22, 1909, at Oakford to John and Pearl Anderson Oller. She married Charles Denton in St. Louis on April 3, 1943.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Richard (and wife Pat) Goben of Lake Delton, Wis.; two daughters, Shirley (and husband Art) Behrens of Mason City and Lavina Gay (and husband Clem) DeMattels of Pekin; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, five brothers and four sisters.

She was a member of San Jose Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to her church or to Lincoln Christian Nursing Home.

 

Sarah 'Suzie' Brown

Sarah "Suzie" Louise Brown, 78, of Lincoln died Sunday (July 27, 2003) at 9:45 p.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carroll Richards officiating.

Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Beason.

Mrs. Brown was a dietary worker at Lincoln Developmental Center before she retired.

She was born July 3, 1925, in Curby, Ind., to Clarence E. and Pearl Irene Webster Landers.

She married Marvin F. Brown on April 1, 1949, in Springfield, and he died July 3, 1984. She had previously married Harold M. Reynolds, on Feb. 27, 1941, and he preceded her in death.

Survivors are one son, Gus (and Becky) Franklin Brown of Lincoln; one daughter, Lucky Connie Lee Eichner of Lincoln; five grandsons, Gary Clayton Downey, Evan Jay Downey, Jeremy Brown, Jason Brown and Jonathon Brown; one granddaughter, Gina Marie Brown; two great-grandsons, Ethan James Downey and Steven Brown; one great-granddaughter, Kendra Leigh Downey; and one sister, Alice M. Thornton of Lincoln.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter P. Landers and James L. Landers, and one sister, Mary L. Jones.

She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, Cumberland Presbyterian Women, the Mary and Martha class, American Legion Auxiliary 263 and the foster grandparent program.
