snowy owl to be featured
at IRC

DECATUR -- The Illinois
Raptor Center is scheduling its annual Owl Prowls for Friday,
Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24, 25 and 26, starting promptly at 6:30
each evening.

Each prowl lasts about two hours and
includes refreshments. The prowls will go ahead rain or
shine. Participants are asked to wear weather-appropriate
clothing and bring flashlights. The cost is $15 per adult and $7 per
child.
This year the center will introduce
Yeti, a baby snowy owl, to the prowl events. Yeti, a name meaning "the
abominable snowman," has just recently joined the center's Education
on the Wing program -- the largest outreach program of its
type in Illinois.
Snowy owls have become popular due to
the Harry Potter books and movies. The prowls will give the public
a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see a baby snowy owl up close and
personal, along with seven other owl species that can be found in
Illinois. Members of the wild population of barred owls along the
Sangamon River are sure to show up and join the prowl.

Dates are also available Oct. 27
through Nov. 1 for businesses and organizations that would like to
schedule a private prowl for their members and employees. To make a
reservation for one of the scheduled Owl Prowls or to arrange for

Money raised from this event will
support Illinois Raptor Center's projects and programs, which
include environmental education, habitat restoration and wildlife
intervention services.
