Permission has been received from Gibbs
M. Smith Inc. of Layton, Utah, for reading some of the poems written
by cowboys and published in the book "Cowboy Poetry: A Gathering,"
edited by Hal Cannon, 1985.
Just a few weeks ago there was a cowboy
poetry gathering
at Prescott, Ariz.
Words of the cowboy poems create vivid
images as cowboys write of the happenings on range and ranch, of the
tedious month-long trail drive, of the joy and pride in their
skills, their affection for nature, their horses and, yes, even the
cows! They write also of loneliness and of pain.

Michael Riley of Time Magazine said:
"Most cowboy poems speak of real events and people, from bucking
horses and cagey cows to old Stetson hats and long winter travels.
Although they focus on the ordinary stuff of life, their truths ...
seem no less eternal than those penned by Shakespeare."
Jim Fielden of Middletown, a talented
actor, and Jay "Shorty" Braunstein, formerly of Texas, will portray
the cowboys.
Hot dogs and
Laura Bush's cowboy cookies follow the poetry reading.
