Confirmed pertussis and flu
in Logan County      

[FEB. 18, 2005]  Logan County has had two lab confirmed cases of pertussis, commonly called whooping cough, this past month. The Logan County Health Department has followed protocol of contacting everyone who may have been in exposed to the illness, and everyone is on antibiotics. 

It is believed that the spread of the highly contagious disease may be isolated, Margie Harris reported. Harris said that those who have not been immunized against the disease, or if it has been a while, are most susceptible.

There have been 18 cases of A strain flu and two of B strain flu, both lab-confirmed. Both of these stains are targeted in the current influenza vaccine. 

The flu is showing a late arrival here this year, Harris said. It is still worthwhile to get a vaccination. Restrictions on who can receive a shot have been lifted. Anyone can get one now. The local health department has about 60 doses still available.
