[JAN. 28, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- Sen. Larry Bomke, R-Springfield, will serve as the Senate minority spokesman on the Transportation Committee. Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson, R-Greenville, announced the appointment Wednesday.

"Senator Bomke has proven himself to be a considerable asset to our caucus, and I know he will serve as a knowledgeable spokesman for his district on the transportation committee," Watson said. "I am confident his experience on this committee will help him lead the Senate Republicans on transportation issues."

Bomke, who has served on the committee since 2000, looks forward to continuing his role as spokesman.

"Transportation is always a concern in my district, particularly the condition of our local highways," he said. "I look forward to again working in an area that impacts the lives of my constituents on a daily basis."

The Transportation Committee handles legislation affecting the highways, railways and waterways of Illinois.
