LINCOLN -- Harley George Heath Jr., 75, of Lincoln died
Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at 12:46 p.m. at his home.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 1 until 4
p.m. Tuesday at the home of his son, at 1028 S. State St.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion
Cemetery, rural Lincoln.
Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of
arrangements.
He was born in Michigan on June 30, 1930, to Harley
George and Midge Lazelle Heath Sr. He married Irene Mammen.
She preceded him in death in 1995.
Mr. Heath is survived by one son, Jerry Heath of Lincoln;
one daughter, Judy Mileham of Lincoln; one stepson, Ron
Patterson of Bloomington; one brother, Robert Heath of Mount
Pulaski; one sister, Florence Roscoe of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, one brother
and his parents.
He was a member of the Church of God.

Hazel Hickey

LINCOLN -- Hazel E. Hickey, 83, formerly of Mason City,
died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at 3:10 a.m. at St. Clara's
Manor Nursing Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Her funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Curt
McCallister officiating.
Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
Mrs. Hickey was employed as a nurse's aide for 28 years
at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 13, 1922, at Lincoln to William H. and
Pansy McCray Lee. She married Joseph V. Hickey Sr. on April
21, 1940, at Bowling Green, Mo.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph V. Hickey Sr. of
Lincoln; two sons, Joseph V. (and Kay) Hickey Jr. of
Cornland and Robert James (and Ann) Hickey of Lincoln; five
daughters, Sandra (and Robert) Meador of Lincoln, Loretta
Ann (and Truett) Minor of Bessemer, Ala., Virginia Chere of
Lincoln, Nancy Jo (and Roger) Sutton of Lincoln and Rebecca
Osborne of Lincoln; one brother, Walter Lee of Lincoln;
three sisters, Loretta Buchholz of Lincoln, Leona Sherrer of
Lincoln and Marilyn Lolling of Hartsburg; 13 grandchildren;
and 22 great-grandchildren.
One daughter, three brothers and son-in-law Danny Chere
preceded her in death.
Memorials may be made to St. Clara's Manor or Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Helen Applegate

ATLANTA -- Helen Virginia Applegate, 85, of Atlanta died
Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at 5 p.m. at Hopedale Nursing Home in
Hopedale.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Quiram
Funeral Home. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at
the funeral home.
Burial, with military rites, will be in Atlanta Cemetery.
Mrs. Applegate was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
She was born Jan. 21, 1920, at Atlanta to Blinn and Helen
Kendall Ransdell. She married Robert Kelly Applegate on Nov.
8, 1947, at Atlanta. He died July 24, 1973.
She is survived by one son, James Ransdell (and Sharon)
Applegate of Atlanta; one daughter, Mary Helen (and Eric)
Hill of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Kelly and Kris
Applegate and Rob and Heather Hill; and one
stepgranddaughter, Michele Lynne, a first lieutenant in the
Army Nurse Corps, serving in Iraq.
Mrs. Applegate was a past matron of the Atlanta Order of
the Eastern Star, a member of the Atlanta Cemetery Board, a
life member of the American Legion, a Girl Scout leader and
a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church.
As a captain in the Army Nurse Corps, she took care of
German prisoners of war at Camp Ellis, was on Tinian Island
when the atomic bomb took off and served in occupied Japan.
During her youth, she lived in Hollywood, Calif., New
York City and Florida. She returned to Springfield and
graduated from Springfield High School and the Memorial
Hospital School of Nursing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Atlanta United
Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Margot Hannah Blaen
Cross
Margot Hannah Blaen Cross, 91, a
resident of Lincoln Christian Village, formerly of Emden,
died at 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 24 at the Christian Village.
Visitation will be on Monday, Nov. 28 from 9 – 10:30 a.m at
St. Peter Lutheran Church, Emden. Service will begin at
10:30 with Rev. David Hofer presiding.
Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Rural Emden.
She was born on May 18, 1914 to Cyrus J. and Anna Zimmer
McCormick in Emden. She married Henry C. Cross on June 29,
1937 in Emden. He preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1987.
Mrs. Cross is survived by one son, David (Donna) Cross of
Lincoln; one daughter, Anne (Dick Burt) of Minier; Five
Grandchildren, Vicki Johnson of Fayetteville, NC; Danny
(Angie) Cross of Clarksville, TN; Scott Cross of Glendale,
CA; Gary (Melissa) Burt of Minier; Garland (Julie) Burt of
Jacksonville; eight great-grandchildren, Grant Johnson,
Lilly, David, Morgan, Paul, John and Sarah Cross, Colby
Burt; one sister, Harriet Spangler of Lincoln; one
brother-in-law, Floyd Hayes of Emden and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two
brothers, Corliss and Leonard; two sisters, Etta Hayes and
Carlynn Hamer; one grandson, Galyn Cross.
She was a teacher at Lone Tree, a one-room country grade
school for three years. She attended school in Emden and
Hartsburg, and then attended Wartburg College one year and
Lincoln College one year earning her teaching certificate.
Margot was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and
Great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Christian Village.

LINCOLN -- Joyce Ruth Coleman, 68, of Lincoln died
Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at 10:02 a.m. at Memorial Medical
Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Her funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor
Larry Crawford officiating.
Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
Mrs. Coleman retired from Community Action, where she
worked in the departments of foster grandparents and energy.
She was born March 7, 1937, in Evansville, Ind., to Louis
and Genevieve Clark Hughes. She married John Coleman on June
8, 1956, in Evansville, Ind. He died Sept. 20, 2005.
She is survived by one son, Keith (and Ann) Coleman of
Lincoln; two daughters, Jamie (and Tim) Brennan of Lincoln
and Jean Coleman of Lincoln; two brothers, Larry Hughes of
Evansville, Ind., and Terry (and Shannon) Hughes of
Evansville, Ind.; one sister, Shirley (and James) Harl of
Wildwood, Mo.; five grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Judy
Schaub, and one son, Joseph D. Coleman.
She attended Lincoln Christian Church.

LINCOLN -- Esther L. Katz, 93, of Lincoln died Wednesday,
Nov. 23, 2005, at 5:10 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran
Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Carnahan officiating.
Visitation will be at the church from noon until the service
time.
Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln is
handling arrangements.
Mrs. Katz was a bookkeeper at Logan Mason Farm Supply
before she retired.
She was born Nov. 9, 1912, in Lincoln to Emil and Tillie
Johnson Hendrickson. She married Harold Katz on Nov 9, 1933,
at the Zion Lutheran parsonage in Lincoln.
She is survived by her husband, of Lincoln; one son,
David (and Becky) Katz of Lincoln; one brother, Ralph (and
Martha) Hendrickson of Lincoln; one sister, Mildred Berryman
of Lincoln; three grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
One brother, Earl, preceded her in death.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln and
the Ladies Aid of the church.
Memorials may be made to her church or to the Christian
Village.

LINCOLN -- Linda Louise Cooper, 65, of Venice, Fla., and
Zionsville, Ind., formerly of Lincoln, died Nov. 18, 2005,
in Venice, Fla.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at
Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln. The Rev. Linda
Johnson of Zionsville United Methodist Church, Zionsville,
Ind., will officiate. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. at
the funeral home.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
She was born July 21, 1940, in Lincoln to Wilbur E. and
Louise Walker Layman.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by her husband, Donald Cooper of
Venice, Fla., and Zionsville, Ind.; two sons, Christopher
Cooper of East Peoria and Scott Cooper of Parma, Ohio; seven
grandchildren; and an aunt, Marjorie Schertz of Bloomington.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in
Zionsville, Ind.
She served as a trustee for Lincoln College.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Lincoln
College Office of Advancement and will be accepted at the
funeral home.
