"Are You Listening?" will be presented at St. John United Church of Christ on Sunday     Send a link to a friend

[SEP. 21, 2005]   “Are You Listening?” will be presented at St. John United Church of Christ on Sunday

Lois Leonard, lay delegate to The United Church of Christ General Synod, to speak at St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln Sunday, September 24.  Ms. Leonard, from the Western Association, was one of 51 delegates from Illinois attending the General Synod of the United Church of Christ when they met in Atlanta, Georgia July 1-5, 2005. Also attending as a youth delegate was Heather Goetsch, now attending the University of Illinois.

Among the church leaders in attendance were The Rev. John H. Thomas, General Minister and President of the U.C.C., and The Rev. Ron Bufford, coordinator of the U.C.C. theme. Coretta Scott King was scheduled to speak, but her recent illness prevented her from attending.

Ms. Leonard will share her experiences from some of the 27 sessions at which the proclamations, resolutions and humanitarian concerns were addressed with her message “Are You Listening?” Her reflections will be on the theme of the Synod, ‘God is Still Speaking,’ taken from one of the church’s messages “Never place a period where God has placed a comma,” a quote from Gracie Allen. Ms Leonard is available to share the General Synod news with any group interested, as are all of the representatives throughout their associations.

BibleGrasp -- an 'everybody welcome' Wednesday series          Send a link to a friend

[AUG. 23, 2005]  Does the Bible really intrigue you? Are there many parts of the world's most important book that are difficult for you to grasp? Yet, do you believe that the Bible somehow is addressed by God to you as his word to guide, comfort and encourage you in all your relationships?

If so, regardless of whether you're a member at Lincoln Christian Church or some other church -- or not a member of any church, Pastor John Castelein, preacher and Bible professor, can help you grasp the historical setting of each and every Bible book as well as its message for your life and family today.

These Wednesday evening courses, starting at 6:30 p.m. from Sept. 7 on, will provide you with maps, charts, outlines and your own BibleGrasp notebook. All you need to bring is curiosity, your own study Bible and your questions. A 5:30 p.m. meal and child care are provided. In this fun and relaxed atmosphere, no one will be called on to read or answer questions.
