Vernon 'Barney' Gosda          Send a link to a friend

ATLANTA -- Vernon C. "Barney" Gosda, 78, a lifelong Atlanta resident, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at 12:35 a.m. at Morton Terrace Care Center, Morton.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Quiram Funeral Home, with Masonic rites at 8 p.m.

A graveside funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Atlanta Cemetery. Andy Glass will officiate and military rites will be conducted by the Atlanta American Legion.

Mr. Gosda served as sexton for the Atlanta Cemetery many years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was born March 19, 1928, at Atlanta to William and Lillian Gimbel Gosda. He married Quita J. Upton on Oct. 2, 1952, at Bisbee, Ariz. She died Feb. 27, 1998.

He is survived by four sisters, Rose Singley of Topeka, Dorothy Klockenga of Decatur, Lillian Knecht of DeKalb and Ruth Schmidt of Woodstock; one brother, Ralph Gosda of Arcadia, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, six brothers and one sister.

He was a member of the Atlanta Masonic Lodge and the Atlanta American Legion Gresham-Crutchley Post 341.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

LINCOLN -- Richard Dean "Dick" Lessen, 77, of Lincoln died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at 11:45 a.m. at his home.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Union Cemetery. Pastor Todd Phelps will officiate, and military rites will be conducted.

Bennett Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mr. Lessen was a salesman for Xamis Ford before he retired in the 1990s.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was born April 13, 1929, in Union to Henry and Delila Franz Lessen. He married Barbara Beaver on March 7, 1948, in Lincoln.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one daughter, Cathy Jacob of Lincoln; two brothers, Gene Lessen of Richardson, Texas, and Ron Lessen of Mount Morris; one sister, Delores Baughman of Lincoln; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Henry Lessen.

He was a member of United Church of Christ in Lincoln. 

Memorials may be made to Wayne J. Schall Hospice.
