WAPELLA -- James D. "Jim" Brown, 78, of
Wapella died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at 7:45 a.m. at
Bloomington Rehabilitation and Health Care Center,
Bloomington.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday
at Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta.
A private family service will be on
Wednesday at Sugar Grove Cemetery, rural Wapella, with the
Rev. Nadine Preston officiating.
Mr. Brown farmed in the Wapella area.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was born Dec. 2, 1927, at rural Wapella
to Gerald and Gene Boyd Brown. He married Ramona Froman in
1951.
He is survived by one son, Kim Brown of
Bloomington; two daughters, Carol Davis of Jerseyville and
Nancy (and Roger) Reinhart of Waynesville; four
grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be made to the
Wapella Rescue Squad, Atlanta Rescue Squad, or the
Bloomington Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

LINCOLN -- Bertha Allie Aper, 88, of Lincoln died Friday,
April 28, 2006, at St. Clara's Manor.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's
Lutheran Church in Hartsburg, with the Rev. David Russell
officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the
church.
Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery.
Holland and Barry Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Aper helped her husband with farming in the
Hartsburg area for a number of years. After retiring from
farming in 1972, she worked at the Christian Village and
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1985.
She had previously operated the Armour Creamery in Hartsburg
and was also employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company in
Peoria.
She was born Aug. 29, 1917, at San Jose to Theodore and
Allie Poppenga Wiggers. She married William J. Aper on March
3, 1945, in Hartsburg. He died June 19, 1980.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth
Wiggers, and two brothers, Sweeter T. and Jacob Wiggers.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in
Hartsburg, served in the Ladies Aid Circle at the church,
the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Women's
Club Round Robin and was a member of The Oasis senior
center. She also did volunteer work.

Church in Hartsburg or to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Vernon 'Barney' Gosda

ATLANTA -- Vernon C. "Barney" Gosda, 78, a
lifelong Atlanta resident, died Friday, April 28, 2006,
at 12:35 a.m. at Morton Terrace Care Center, Morton.
Visitation was on Sunday at Quiram
Funeral Home. Masonic rites followed the visitation.
A graveside funeral service was on Monday
morning at the Atlanta Cemetery, with Andy Glass
officiating. Military rites were conducted by the
Atlanta American Legion.
Mr. Gosda served as sexton for the Atlanta
Cemetery many years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean
War.
He was born March 19, 1928, at Atlanta to
William and Lillian Gimbel Gosda. He married Quita J. Upton
on Oct. 2, 1952, at Bisbee, Ariz. She died Feb. 27, 1998.
He is survived by four sisters, Rose Singley
of Topeka, Dorothy Klockenga of Decatur, Lillian Knecht of
DeKalb and Ruth Schmidt of Woodstock; one brother, Ralph
Gosda of Arcadia, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one
son, six brothers and one sister.
He was a member of the Atlanta Masonic Lodge
and the Atlanta American Legion Gresham-Crutchley Post 341.
Memorial contributions may be made to a
charity of the donor's choice.
