[August 31, 2007]  (AP) Wet weather will persist across portions of the Southeast on Friday, as a cold front pushes through the region. Moist air from the Gulf of Mexico will collide with cooler, drier air, causing thunderstorms.

In the West, thunderstorms are expected in the Rockies and Sierra Nevada mountains. Rainfall will generally be limited to mountainous terrain, though a few dry storms could spark wildfires in the Great Basin.

Thunderstorms will likely develop over southern Texas, with the heaviest rainfall expected in the state's southern tip.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 26 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont., to a high of 111 degrees at Needles, Calif.
