Ken Bradbury in concert at Camp Griesheim Retreat Center on Sunday

Send a link to a friend

[September 12, 2007]  ATLANTA -- The public is invited to hear Ken Bradbury at Camp Griesheim Christian Retreat Center on Sunday at 6 p.m. Singer, songwriter, musician and humorist, Bradbury also writes "The Coonridge Digest," an Associated Press award-winning column that appears in 14 newspapers in Illinois and Missouri.

He has seven CDs of published music to his credit and has written music for five recordings by Shiloh, a Christian singing group. He is founder and director of the Green Pastures Performing Arts Camp and has appeared many times in shows at Lincoln's New Salem.

He is perhaps best known for writing over 100 plays and musicals. Along with co-author Robert Crowe, Bradbury won the Lincoln Library Award for the play "The Shadow of Giants." The writing duo's most recent work, "Why Spot Ran," premiered last year in San Diego.

Since 1995 he has been the most-produced author of school speech contest material in the United States, and his name has appeared in more contests than any other author. His speech contest writings have won top honors in nearly all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

He has also authored four books, "The Coonridge Digest," "Around the World with Frieda Marie Crump," "The Coonridge Devotions" and most recently, "Homerville."

A resident of Arenzville, Bradbury recently ended a 35-year teaching career at Triopia High School. He now teaches at Lincoln Land Community College.

He has been honored with numerous awards, including the Country Companies/WICS Channel 20 Golden Apple Award for teaching, the Western Illinois University Friend of the Arts Award, the Illinois College McGaw Citation for Excellence in the Arts, and he was named Outstanding High School Teacher by Eastern Illinois University. He also received an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from MacMurray College and an honorary Doctor of Letters from Illinois College. The Jacksonville Hall of Fame recipient was given the Studs Terkel Humanities Award by the Illinois Arts Council in 2004.

Camp Griesheim, located in rural Atlanta, is a nonprofit, nondenominational retreat center. A freewill offering will be accepted during Bradbury's performance to help offset ongoing operating expenses. For more information about this concert or the facility, please call Vicki Crane at 309-244-9045.
