George Osborn

[April 15, 2008]  HARTSBURG -- George W. Osborn, 95, of Hartsburg, died Monday, April 14, 2008, at 1:50 p.m. at Lincoln Christian Village.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden, with the Rev. David L. Hofer and the Rev. Frank Pieper officiating. Friends and neighbors may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Arrangements are by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Mr. Osborn retired from farming in Orvil and Prairie Creek townships. He lived for 69 years on the rural Hartsburg farm where he began his farming operation.

He was born July 31, 1912, in Hartsburg to Harry and Lydia Peplow Osborn. He married Margaret A. Harmsen on Feb. 24, 1939, in Emden. They had been married for 65 years when she preceded him in death on June 14, 2004.

He is survived by two sons, Darrell (and Brenda) Osborn of Hartsburg and Glenn (and Diane) Osborn of Lincoln; one sister, Mildred Kaesebier of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren, Darwin (and Jeanne) Runyon of Peoria Heights, Duane (and Pam) Runyon of Farmer City, Dale (and Roberta) Runyon of Broadwell, Jobeth (and Joe) Stanbary of Henry, Janelle (and Norm) Boesdorfer of Atlanta, Chad (and Stella Kay) Osborn of Emden, Jason (and Ashley) Osborn of Lincoln, Heather Osborn of Hartsburg, Carrie Osborn of Lincoln, Barry Osborn of Emden and Cathie (and Thomas) Hewes III of Cary; nine great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Darla Runyon, and one brother, Harold Osborn.

He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden and the Lutheran Brotherhood of the church. He was a member of Emden Kiwanis, a former trustee of Hartsburg Fire and Rescue, a former Hartsburg school board member, and a 4-H leader.

He attended Lincoln College.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden or Hartsburg Fire and Rescue.
