Willis Douglas

[October 07, 2008]  Willis E. Douglas, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at 6:06 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Full Gospel Evangelistic Center in Lincoln, with Pastor Oscar Owens officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Dinner and fellowship will follow the service.

Cremation rites will be accorded after the service at the church, and burial will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 14 in Zion Cemetery, with military rites at the grave site.

Holland Barry and Bennett Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Willis was born Nov. 6, 1922, in Armington to Ross and Zora Farris Douglas. He married Shirley Brandt on Nov. 6, 1946. This year they would have celebrated 62 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Willis Larry "Red" (and wife Shirley) Douglas; two granddaughters, Tami (and Chris) Sprague and Tori (and Mike) Cox; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Virgil (and Gen) Douglas; one sister, Julia Clinard; and many nieces and nephews.

One sister and one brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Douglas was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in China, Burma and India. Some of his favorite stories were memories from that time. He was very proud of his service to his country.

He graduated from Lincoln High School.

Willis and Shirley attended Mason City Assembly of God Church until his health prevented him from worshiping there. They then began to attend Full Gospel Evangelistic Center in Lincoln and praised the Lord faithfully with Pastors Oscar and Benny Owens until Willis moved to St. Clara's Manor. After that, the pastors came to St. Clara's almost every Sunday afternoon to worship with him and his family and friends.

Willis spent the last three years of his life at St. Clara's Manor, where he was loved and cared for by a wonderful staff.

He leaves his family to celebrate his life and rejoice that he is now in Jesus' arms.
