Congratulations
to Washington-Monroe School. Their name was pulled from last
month's
Close Up grab bag, and a check for $25 will be sent to the school.
You can earn cash too. All you have to do is submit your good news
to Close Up, and if your organization's
name is pulled at the end of the month, $25 will be sent to your
favorite cause.

As
a prelude to the Relay for Life in June, the organizers are
having the annual Relay for Life Brunch on Sunday, May 17, from 9
a.m. to 1 p.m. As in the past, the brunch will be at the Lincoln
College cafeteria and the food will be prepared by Chef Warren. The
food is being donated by Sysco. All ticket sales go to benefit the
Relay for Life of Logan County. Tickets can be purchased in
advance or at the door. Prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children
under 10. Call 217-735-5551 and ask for Barb Wood.
All
ages are invited to the Lincoln Area YMCA's 3rd annual Cow Chip
Bingo on Saturday, May 9. It is a free event to see and will be
at the Y Activity Center, 719 Wyatt Ave., between 12:30 and 3
p.m. Bingo tickets may be purchased for $15 with a chance to win
$750. A day of fun is planned for all, with activities such as Cow
Chip Bingo, the Christian praise rock band One Day Closer, a
three-in-one inflatable bouncer, games and contests for kids and
adults, hot dogs and chips, archery and paintball demonstrations,
preschool play stations, face painting, raffles, and so much more.
Other agencies represented will be D.A.R.E., Logan County Sheriff's
Department, Humane Society of Logan County and Lincoln Rural Fire
Department.
The event is possible because of these great sponsors:
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Homes, Jayne's Hair Salon, Bryant's
Arcade Cafe, Graue Inc., Guzzardo's Italian Villa, Action Rental &
Sales, State Bank of Lincoln, O'Donohue's Old Fashioned Soda Shoppe,
XPress Depot, Serenity Now, Flippers Lawn Management, Nobbe Eye Care
Center, Wurth Gun Services, Lincoln Printers, Dickson's Tacos and
More, and Duvall Automotive.
Horsefeathers
as well as the Wild Hare Cafe will reopen on Sundays starting
May 10. Yes, that means in time for Mother's Day. The hours will be
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the shop, with food being served in the cafe
from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The meals offered are classic brunch,
baked breakfast casseroles, oven-baked stuffed French toast,
quiches, Danish, coffee and a selection of cakes and pies … all
homemade, of course. For more info or to make reservations, you can
call 947-2100.

It
must be summer! On Wednesday, May 6, the Lincoln Farmers' Market
will be open for the season. The wares will include vegetables and
fruits as they ripen and mature, baked goods, and crafts. The market
will again be at Latham Park, across from Lincoln Public Library,
from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to
noon.
The
Oasis senior center is celebrating its 25th year of operation
and service to the seniors of Logan County. The community is invited
to share in the anniversary celebration May 9 at the Knights of
Columbus Hall in Lincoln. The evening will consist of a social hour
with a cash bar, dinner, and entertainment from the K of C's New
Year's Eve Music and Entertainment Review. There will also be DJ
music to complete the evening. Tickets are only $25 per person and
are available at The Oasis, K of C, Emden Bank, New Holland Bank,
Atlanta Bank, Farmers Bank of Mount Pulaski, Illini Bank, Logan
County Bank and the State Bank of Lincoln.
Got a good piece of news, information or
something that we can all brag about? If you do e-mail Mike and let
us tell everyone about it. Plus you can win cash. Every submission,
whether we use it or not, will get your name in the "Close Up" grab
bag. At the end of the month we will draw a name and someone will
get $25 just for dropping us an e-mail. If you wish, we will be
happy to donate your winnings to the organization of your choice.
