CHESTNUT -- Kenneth Gerdes Sr., 94, of
Chestnut, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at 7:51 a.m. at Memorial
Medical Center in Springfield.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with
the Rev. Joel Dietrich officiating. Visitation will be one
hour prior to the service. |
Burial will be in Laenna Cemetery, Chestnut. Mr.
Gerdes owned and operated Gerdes Trucking.
He was born Aug. 7, 1915, in Petersburg to Alfred
and Edith Lolson Gerdes. He married Emma Evers in
Petersburg on Sept. 5, 1937. She preceded him in
death on April 18, 1997.
He is survived by one daughter, Norma Jean (and
Ron) Powers of Pana; three sons, Kenneth W. Jr. (and
Sharon) Gerdes of Mount Pulaski, George (and Cathy)
Gerdes of Chestnut and Robert Gerdes of Atlanta,
Ga.; one sister, Jean Rolle of Beardstown; 12
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three
step-great-grandchildren; and 13
great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter,
Joan Harbert; one grandson; one sister; and three
brothers. |
He was a member of Chestnut Zion Lutheran Church.
He was a Boy Scout leader for many years.
