[November 19, 2010]  As colder weather approaches, the First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln is happy to report that their Coats for Kids program will warm 57 children. Along with the coats, matching gloves for all coats and stocking hats for coats without hoods were also purchased.

Local schools, elementary through high school, were contacted for gender and size requirements for children needing winter coats. This year coats were purchased for kindergarten through eighth grade. The coats were distributed to Adams, Central, Washington-Monroe and Hartsburg-Emden elementary schools, Chester-East Lincoln and Lincoln Junior High School. Schools may call the church if additional coats are needed.

Michael and Bev Brown, in their fourth year of chairing this project, do a great job of purchasing and sorting the coats. The coats are distributed by members serving on the church's Mission Committee.

Funds for the program are obtained from the church's only fundraiser -- the pork barbecue in July. A huge thank-you to all who support the barbecue so that this worthwhile program continues to keep local children warm in winter.
