Vesta Mefford

[July 14, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Vesta Mefford, 86, of Lincoln, died Thursday, July 14, 2011, at St. Clara's Manor.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Larry Crawford officiating.

Burial will follow in Lawndale Cemetery.

She was born on Feb. 10, 1925, in St. Louis, Mo. Her parents were Harry and Helen Yates VanSickle. She married William G. Mefford on July 4, 1947, in Springfield.

She is survived by one daughter, Julia H. (and Tom) Jones of Fort Hood, Texas; a son-in-law, Ron (and Bonnie) Schulmeister of Lincoln; two stepsons, Charles (and Sandy) Mefford of Oakland, Ark., and Wilbert (and Darlene) Mefford of Mulberry, Ark.; one brother, Thomas VanSickle (and Charlene) of Des Plaines; a sister-in-law, Maria Blackwell (and Leon) of Eldorado; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Anna George.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
