When the Logan County planning and
zoning committee met Aug. 1, it had a new business item on the
agenda. Discussions for the evening centered on the Relight wind
farm, which is expected to locate in the Mount Pulaski area,
stretching eastward from the south and north.

Chairman David Hepler informed those present that he had received
word that Relight is looking into entering Logan County. There has
been little further contact with the company. "They're pretty
close-lipped," said Bill Martin. Martin indicated that the company,
which is from Italy, is working on projects on both the East and
West Coast. They travel back and forth through the area and could be
stopping in soon. The old business brought before the committee
began with an update on the enterprise zone. Will D'Andrea reported
that the city would also be interested in speaking with school
districts about enterprise zone participation. The committee asked
D'Andrea to coordinate with Lincoln Mayor Keith Snyder to set up the
discussions with the schools.
The next piece of old business concerned progress on planning for
possible bike trails. D'Andrea said the planning commission selected
the Farnsworth Group as a consultant for the project.
Referring to the progress being made, Hepler commented, "I think
this is a good step in the right direction,"
Moving on to discuss the Sugar Creek Wind Farm, D'Andrea reported
that the wind farm has signed an agreement with Ameren. This
agreement will allow Sugar Creek to proceed with applying for the
necessary paperwork to improve the power station that is already in
place. The company will also need to build new equipment. This would
require additional conditional use approval of agricultural land in
the area. All of the appropriate paperwork will be brought to the
board this fall.

That project already won favor from the county board in June. The
company continues to work at completing set requirements before
applying for building permits.
In D'Andrea's officer report, he said that the new GIS website
has been receiving positive feedback from those who have used it.
There has been a lot of response from real estate users.
Others committee members present were board chairman Robert
Farmer, Jan Schumacher and Chuck Ruben.
