Sunday afternoon a nice crowd turned out for the groundbreaking ceremony of the 17th home built in Logan County by Habitat for Humanity.

The house that is being built on Decatur Street in Lincoln will be the future home of the Harley Utterback family.

Habitat board president Mike Irwin addressed the crowd, welcoming everyone to the ceremony.

Ward 3 Alderwoman Jonie Tibbs congratulated the Utterbacks and wished them many happy years in their new home.

The Rev. Father Fontana read Scripture and offered up prayers for the build and the family who will live in the home.

Mike Kubat spoke about the construction project and sent out a call for volunteers to come out and help. He along with Bill Sahs will lead the construction of this home.

Steve Allen, pictured in the foreground at right, has served as the family mentor for the Utterbacks. He will continue to fill that position with the family even after the home is finished and they have moved in.

Habitat board members were the first ones to take up a scoop of the soil that signified the groundbreaking for the new home.

Last of all, an invitation went out to anyone else who wished to participate in this part of the ceremony. Among those who did were Tonita Reifsteck, at far left, who is a member of the local Habitat organization, and next to her Alderwoman Jonie Tibbs.
