Fourth-grade classes at Washington-Monroe are read to every week by "mystery readers." Erin Barrick’s mother, Heather Barrick, read “The Lorax,” by Dr. Seuss, to Mrs. Singleton’s class last Friday. Parents and other relatives choose a day and select a book. Only the teacher knows who the reader will be each week. Readers send the teacher five clues about themselves. One clue is given to the class every day, from vague on Monday to more direct by Friday. The class tries to identify the readers before they arrive. Question sessions follow the readings.
