From Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln, two students, Ben Steiner and
Anna Sielaff, were recognized for their track and field
accomplishments. Ben Steiner took first place in shot put and
fourth place in discus at the 2012 Logan County Track and Field
Meet.
He also took first place in shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 8.5
inches and fourth place in discus with a throw of 117 feet, 9 inches
at the 2012 Lutheran Sports Association state championship in River
Forest.

Anna Sielaff took first place in both shot put and discus for
seventh-grade girls at the 2012 Logan County Track and Field Meet.
She took second place in discus with a throw of 83 feet, 10
inches after taking third place in that event last year, and ninth
place in shot put with a throw of 27 feet, 1 inch at the Lutheran
state championship.

Sielaff also gained academic recognition this year from state
historical authorities for her research and presentation on the
influences of Edwards Trace in settling central and southern
Illinois.

The board also recognized other students who could not be
present: Lincoln Community High School hurdler Amina Jackson and the
Mount Pulaski High School volleyball team.
LCHS senior Amina Jackson set a new school record in the 300
hurdles this year, running the event in 44.58 seconds, breaking her
own record of 47.06.
Jackson took fourth place in the 300 intermediate hurdles at the
Illinois High School Association Class 2A Girls Track and Field
State Championships in Charleston on May 19.

Year after year, the Mount Pulaski volleyball team has retained a
formidable reputation as state contenders. In the 2011-2012 school
year, the team had a 26-16 season and took second place in the
Illinois High School Association Class 1A Girls Volleyball
Tournament.
Hilltopper team members were Jessica Awe, Alexis Bowles, Rachel
Durchholz, Whitney Nichols, Breanna Howe, Maggie Olson, Elizabeth
Allen, Marissa Mattingly, Allie Hickey, Erika Leever, Emma Stewart,
Chelsea Seimbida, Jordan Taylor, Julia Beccue, Cady Lowery and
Sylvia Klumpp. Coaches were Donna Dulle, Brooke Ciaccio and Charrisa
Howe.
