Work
has begun at Fifth Street Food Mart for a new
building which will be immediately adjacent to the
Food Mart. The building according to sources will
have a different address and be a separate entity
from the Food Mart so it may be licensed for liquor
and video gaming. In May of 2014 Fifth Street Food
Mart owner Cliff McCumber approached the Lincoln
Liquor Commission seeking the creation of a pour
license in the city so he could bring video gaming
into his convenience store. The commission
recommended the license to the city, but city
aldermen voted it down. While McCumber could not get
a license for his existing store, the creation of a
separate business next door to his store allowed him
to obtain a different license.
