Wilbur
Nelson and his granddaughter Lauren
Schroeder from Henry County were among
the many attendees at the PrairiErth
Field Day on Friday. The Nelson family
farm is entering its fifth generation of
ownership and management with Lauren,
who is researching transitioning the
conventional farm to organic. Wilbur,
who is 82 years old and represents the
third generation of Nelson farmers,
noted that Lauren is leading him
"kicking and screaming" into a new way
of farming. Later he would say that he
is in favor of change and willing to
embrace it if it is a factor for keeping
a younger generation on the farm.
PrairiErth is an all organic farm in the
Atlanta area. The family farm produces
grain crops as well as vegetable crops,
and some livestock. Lincoln Daily News
will have additional coverage from
PrairiErth in future editions.
