Today,
the Paint the Paper Pink photo is two pictures of one
group. There is a good reason for this, as it allows us
to drive home the first point we want to make during
Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The first picture is a lovely group shot
of the ownership, management, and staff at Graue
Chevrolet. Many smiling faces are there to communicate
that they care about all the cancer warriors in our
community.
In the second photo, the group was asked
how many have someone they care about who has been
impacted by breast cancer. Of the 32 present, 28 hands
went up. That equaled 88 percent of the group. The show
of hands drives home the point that most of us have seen
someone we care about impacted by Breast Cancer. It is
no surprise because this year, 287,000 women will be
diagnosed with breast cancer, the number two most
diagnosed cancer in America, second only to lung cancer.
This year, about 47,000 breast cancer warriors will
leave this earth.
Why do we paint the paper pink? Each year we do this to
raise awareness, show support for the 287,000, and hold
in memory the 47,000. Please join us. See the
information below if you've not scheduled your pink
shirt picture yet.

The
section of Fifth Street Road between the I-55 bridge and
700th Avenue has long been recognized as a dangerous
stretch of road because of its curves. To address this,
Logan County is designing the roadway there to make it
safer for motorists to maintain a consistent rate of
speed.
County Engineer Brett Aukamp recently shared that the
county had applied for an Illinois Department Of
Transportation Highway Safety Grant to assist with
funding the new design. The county has been awarded that
grant which is $840,236.
