At the Saturday Veterans Day celebration at the Lincoln VFW Post 1756 there were several youth in attendance including Cub Scout Pack 101. The youngsters were there for a special purpose. Each one held a child-sized American Flag which they waved enthusiastically during the program including while listening to the Veterans Day Address given by Post Commander Bill Stauffer.

On Saturday morning, LCHS Volleyball Coach Kaylee Lowery donned her orange and came out to support her alma mater, the Hartsburg-Emden Lady Stags and Coach Jennifer Hayes in the IHSA Class 1A State Volleyball finals.

Both coaches left CEFCU Arena at the end of the day with the titles of State Runner-up in their respective classes.

There is often mention of six degrees of separation between nearly every human being, but for the two coaches the degree of separation is like uh…ZERO.

Hayes coached Lowery back when she was Kaylee Beekman. Does Beekman sound familiar? It should. Lowery is the sister of Addie Beekman who played this year for the Lady Stags and the sister of Grace Beekman who also played for the Lady Stags. All three of the Beekman girls went to state with their respective teams, and all three helped to bring home those State Runner-up trophies for Hartem.

Oh, and in case you are wondering, yes, there is also a connection between Kaylee Lowery and LDN Sports Reporter Teena Lowery.  Teena is Kaylee's mother-in-law!
