Paint the Paper Pink

Thank you to the ladies and gent of Smiles on the Square in Lincoln for showing their support for our local breast cancer warriors and survivors. Today’s group wants to let you know that keeping a positive attitude during the battle against any disease is going to help patients become survivors. Scientifically, studies show that those who experience depression after their diagnoses are less invested in the battle, and less hopeful of success. At the same time, one does not overcome those terrible feelings alone. Those who are battling breast cancer need positive reinforcement throughout their journey.  So as a friend or loved one, even if the heart is breaking, keep that positive attitude for your warrior’s sake. Put on that smile of optimism for the one you love.

Thursday evening the Friends and Family Relay team hosted its annual Pink Pumpkin Fundraiser Auction for the American Cancer Society. It was a tremendous evening where that once again the bar was raised.  The tally for the night looks like it will exceed all past events. The initial count is that the event raised more than $27,000. The number will be finalized over the weekend, with expectations that the total could exceed $30,000 when all is said and done.

This year, the auction team included auctioneers Mike Maske (far left) and Ty Tucker with Cindy Guyett assisting.

Also assisting at the Thursday evening Pink Pumpkin Fundraiser Auction was Little Miss Logan County Kodi Eigenbrod and Miss Logan County Fair Ellyn Martinez. The lovely ladies did a remarkable job. At the end of the evening, the item being shown by the queens in the photo was won by Lorrie Paige of Bee’s Landscaping. Paige then gifted the “Mexican” pumpkin with purple sombrero filled with candy to Little Miss Kodi. The item, donated by United Community Bank was filled with candy and also had a gift card for additional purchases.

The gesture on Paige’s part earned her a well-deserved hug from little Miss Kodi.

All in all, it was a tremendous night.  Lincoln Daily News will have additional coverage from the event in future editions.
