n Sunday afternoon it felt
unseasonably warm for the
contestants who participated in the
National Railsplitting contest at the
45
th
Annual Abraham Lincoln National
Railsplitting Festival in Lincoln.
On the north end of the Logan County
Fairground, 13 contestants prepared to
split a single log into 9 split rails. They
were competing in a timed competition
with the one who made eight good rails in
the shortest amount of time becoming the
winner for this year’s event.
Those who participated included Danny
Rock, Alex Anderson, Cameron Friedlein,
Bevan Baker, Scott Friedlein, Chris
Friedlein, Tyler Pilchard, Daniel Rock.
Travis Pilchard, Evan Coombs, Jonathon
Novin, Roy Suery, and Cody Friedlein.
Competitors came from throughout
Illinois, parts of Kentucky and Missouri.
This year there were two Logan County
competitors; Alex Anderson of Lincoln
and Bevan Baker of Atlanta. This was a
first-time effort for both young men, and
they certainly gave it the best they had.

Winners for this year (left to right): Fourth place - Tyler Pilchard with 11 minutes 36
seconds, third place - Chris Friedlein with 10 minutes 17 seconds, second place -
Cody Frielein with nine minutes 10 seconds, Champion Railsplitter - Roy Usery with
six minutes 47 seconds; and festival co-founder Darius Knauer, who presented each
man with his award.
