"Parkland played an excellent match
from start to finish," said Mark Tippett, coach for the Lincoln
team. "Their servers did a great job of disrupting our passing game,
and we were never able to get into a rhythm offensively.
"We never gave up and fought hard the
entire match. I am proud of the way the girls played this season,
and I enjoyed working with this team very much."
Amanda Hansen had three kills and a
pair of blocks, while Janine Buettner had four kills and two digs.
Amy Cox contributed three kills and two blocks, while Lincoln High
School graduate Angela Maestas was credited with three digs.
Lincoln
College completed its season with a record of 16-27.

The Redbirds received 205 points in the
poll, trailing No. 1 Creighton, with 290; No. 2 Southern Illinois,
274; and No. 3 Wichita State, 208. Last year, the Redbirds finished
third in the final 2001-2002 league standings, despite losing Tarise
Bryson, the 2001 Valley Player of the Year, to a wrist injury.
Baboucarr Bojang, a 6-9 forward from
Greenville, S.C., was named to the 2002-03 Valley Preseason
All-Conference Team. Last year he was a second team all-conference
and all-newcomer selection, averaging 13.2 points and 7.6 boards per
game.
Illinois State hosts its first
exhibition game, against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, on Monday,
Nov. 4, at Redbird Arena, with a 7:05 p.m. tipoff. The Redbirds open
regular-season action on Saturday, Nov. 23, with a home game against
Utah State, scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

"We received information that Brian and
Jerrance played in an unsanctioned tournament this summer before
asking for permission," head coach Bill Self said. "We reported the
information to the NCAA in July, and now the players and team are
paying the consequences."
Both players
will miss the Nov. 24 season opener against Lehigh and the Nov. 27
home game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
