[SEPT. 19, 2003]  The Logan County Local Emergency Planning Committee and Logan County Health Department, in conjunction with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, are sponsoring a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. The collection is for household waste only. Agriculture, business, city, county or industrial wastes will not be accepted.

This one-day event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Logan County Fairgrounds. Please enter the fairgrounds from the south entrance on Short 11th St. only.

Acceptable wastes

  • Oil-base paints
  • Paint thinners
  • Herbicides
  • Insecticides
  • Pesticides
  • Old gasoline
  • Pool chemicals
  • Cleaning products
  • Mercury
  • Household batteries
  • Used motor oil
  • Drain cleaners
  • Lawn chemicals
  • Solvents
  • Antifreeze
  • Hobby chemicals
  • Aerosol paints and pesticides
  • Fluorescent lamp bulbs

  • Lead acid batteries
  • Medical wastes

This free event will take place rain or shine.

*Please contact your local health department to find ways to dispose of latex paint.
