Elkhart evacuations          Send a link to a friend

[APRIL 12, 2005]  ELKHART -- Workers taking down a sesquicentennial fundraiser tent "got a gas out of it" when they pulled a stake that had punctured a natural gas pipeline.

Emergency personnel and CILCO responded to the downtown Elkhart scene on Monday morning.

Illini Bank and Talk of the Town Restaurant were evacuated. Terry Storer of ESDA said it was fortunate that there was a 10 mph wind out of the southeast to move the gas away from the direction of the grade school.

No injuries or further damage occurred.
