[JUNE 3, 2005]  DECATUR -- Julie Fults of Lincoln has committed to attend Millikin University and play basketball for Big Blue head coach Lori Kerans and the NCAA Division III's women's basketball defending national championship team.

"We are excited that Julie has decided to continue her academic and athletic careers at Millikin University," Kerans said. "As a strong student and talented multi-sport athlete, we believe that Julie's best potential lies ahead."

A two-year letter winner at forward for Lincoln High School, Fults shot 40 percent from the field and 68 percent from the free-throw line as a senior, while scoring 197 points and grabbing 111 rebounds. In 2004-05 she was named a Central State Eight all-conference honorable mention and earned Lincoln's rebounding award. She also earned all-conference honorable mention as a junior, when she shot 47 percent from the field and scored 160 points with 77 rebounds.

Fults was the Army-Reserve 2005 Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, an Illinois State Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to study international business.

Millikin's women's basketball program consistently ranks among the nation's best year after year and should be near the top of the preseason rankings again for 2005-06. The Big Blue capped 2004-05 with a single-season record for wins (29-2) and its first NCAA championship. Millikin has now won an unprecedented 11 championships in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin and earned 11 NCAA tournament berths under head coach Lori Kerans. Millikin, which made the program's 14th appearance during the title run, placed third in the nation in 1985 during Kerans' senior season.
