[JUNE 8, 2005]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays (except holidays) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Oasis potluck and bingo

Join us at 11:30 a.m. Thursday for the monthly potluck lunch, featuring grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. Salads, side dishes and desserts will be available. Bring a dish to pass or come in for our Father’s Day special with a $1 donation. Stay for bingo games sponsored by the senior center, the lunch drawing and many more surprises. Bring a friend and come join the fun.

Ice cream social

On Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. the senior center will host an ice cream social, with homemade cakes and generous portions of some good old-fashioned ice cream. Enjoy playing cards or just visiting with friends. Tickets for the event are available at the senior center for $3 per person.

Tuesday lunch available

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for June 14 will feature chicken patty sandwiches, cole slaw, baked beans, dessert and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Ticket purchase deadline is noon Monday.

VA representative at senior center

The VA representative will be available from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. No appointments necessary. Come early!

Van trips

Space is available for the following van trips sponsored by the senior center. Reservations can be made at the front desk.

  • Sunday, June 26 -- "The Taffetas," Goodfield; transportation and lunch buffet included; deadline June 17

  • Friday, July 8 -- "Wizard of Oz," Bloomington; transportation and show tickets included; deadline June 27

  • Sunday, July 10 -- "Beauty and the Beast," Bloomington; transportation and show tickets included; lunch at Sister’s Tea Room prior to show

Card winners announced

Eleanor Barton and Helen Cart were weekday winners for pinochle. Weekend pinochle winners were Mina Bradburn and Les Van Bibber. The five-in-one winners were Bernie DePuy and Joann Eckert.
