LINCOLN -- Ola L. Bortel, 85, of Lincoln died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at 4:45 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Following cremation, a private service will be at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City.

Mrs. Bortel was a homemaker.

She was born Sept. 16, 1919, at Forest City to Roy and Edna Larimore Miller. She married Olen Bortel on Aug. 16, 1939, in Keokuk, Iowa. He died March 18, 1994.

She is survived by three daughters, Alice Ann (and Larry) Embury of Fruita, Colo., Beverly (and Roger) Brooks of Mason City and Cheryl (and Wayne) Patterson of Easton; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Fletcher of Pekin and Helen Fletcher of Mason City.

She was also preceded in death by one brother.

She was a member of Royal Neighbors.

LINCOLN -- Emil Ernest Ruder, 85, formerly of New Holland, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at 8:30 p.m. at his home.

A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Jefferson Street Christian Church in Lincoln, with Wayne Armstrong officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday at the church. Lincoln Odd Fellows Lodge 204 will have a service at 4 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.

Peasley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mr. Ruder was a lifelong farmer at New Holland. He also worked at Leesman Milling and International Multi-Foods in Burton View until 1981 and then for Odd Fellows from 1981 until 1991.

He was born Nov. 6, 1919, at New Holland to Alfred Frederick and Amelia Wilhelmenia Puls Ruder. He married Laramie Keen on June 4, 1950, in Gillespie.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Elizabeth J. (and William J.) Crow of Lincoln, Donald Wayne Ruder of Lovelock, Nev., and Lynette Ann (and Eric) Ash of Winchester, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Linda Ruder of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Ruder of Springfield, Christopher (and Erica) Ruder of Ingles, Ind., Jason (and Aimee) Crow of Lincoln, Christina Crow of Lincoln, Ashlee Ruder of Nevada, and Jonathan Kahlin, Joshua Kahlin, Chelsey Kahlin, all of California; two great-grandchildren: Maleah and Kelsey Ruder of Ingles, Ind.; and two sisters, Fern (and Robert) Mitchell of Lincoln and Ruth Aper of Hartsburg.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert E. Ruder

He was a charter member of Jefferson Street Christian Church, a member of the New Holland Richmond Club for over 60 years, and a member of Logan County Farm Bureau, Lincoln Odd Fellows Lodge 204, and Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society.

Memorials may be made to the Neighbor to Nations Fund at his church or to VNA Hospice of Illinois.
