In
this Aug. 17 file photo, former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, with his
wife, Patti, listening at right, talks to the media at the Federal Building in
Chicago after a jury found him guilty on one count of lying to federal agents
and was deadlocked on 23 other charges. During a hearing Thursday, U.S. District Judge James Zagel said Blagojevich's retrial will
start the week of Jan. 4, but the judge did not set a specific date. The former
governor will stand
alone as a defendant this time. Yesterday prosecutors dismissed all corruption
charges against his brother, Robert.

Pianist Liu Wei takes
off one of his socks before a practice session in
Shanghai on Thursday. The 23-year-old, whose arms were amputated after a
childhood accident, plays the piano with his toes. Liu was thrust
into the limelight earlier this month when he performed on "China's
Got Talent," the Chinese version of the TV show that helped make
Britain's Susan Boyle a singing star.
