March 12, Robert Danosky, assistant fire chief, was off duty and having breakfast at an
area restaurant. As he left, he saw a group
of people outside in panic and calling for help. He went to them and found a man lying on the
ground with no pulse. Danosky performed
CPR while EMTs were en route. The man
survived. Monday evening, Chief Mark Miller
acknowledged Danosky's heroic efforts, while
Danosky himself humbly said he did not act alone,
as the firefighters and paramedics who were on
duty at the scene should also be given much
credit for the survival of the victim.

Monday
evening, probationary firefighter Chad Kern was sworn
into full-time permanent status by Mayor Keith Snyder. Kern joined the Lincoln department on July 5 last
year. He began his career at the age of 14 in
Williamsville as a cadet with that fire department. He later joined the department as a volunteer, then went
on to the Mount Pulaski department before coming to
Lincoln.

Monday evening
before getting down to the business of the city,
Mayor Keith Snyder asked everyone to join him in
a moment of silence for
Edward Malerich, who died
June 21 and whose funeral was this week.
Malerich served as mayor for
the city of Lincoln for 16 years.
Snyder said he recalled
meeting Malerich when as a young man he applied
for a job with the city street department. Snyder said his job interview took place at Malerich's dry cleaners with Ed Malerich and Joe
Sapp.
The black bow was placed over
Malerich's picture in the council chamber by
Alderwoman Jonie Tibbs.
