Lincoln and Logan Correctional Center union employees and their friends were out Thursday picketing to educate the community about solutions they believe will help the state of Illinois.

It is not by cutting employees but by hiring more. Their idea is to hire entry-level office help instead of pulling higher-paid correctional officers into offices and then paying overtime to the remaining officers in the yard, which also creates safety issues.

Their goal is to show there are ways to save money without closing prisons. The AFSCME union is concerned that closing of prisons will lead to public endangerment.
