Today the feature photos for the October Paint the Paper Pink campaign include members of the City of Lincoln governance and staff.

The first photo is our Lincoln City Council with department heads, elected officials, and the city attorney.

The second photo is the City of Lincoln Clerk's Office staff along with the administrative assistant to the mayor and council.

The third photo is the city municipal works staff including members of the street and alley department and the building & zoning office. We appreciate the fact that for the photo the city street department decided to “paint” a city snowplow pink in honor of all those who are battling breast cancer in our community.

We’re going to use that snow plow as our basis for today’s cancer comments. When diagnosed with breast cancer, you may become bombarded with information. Like a snow covered street, you can't seem to find your way because of all the “stuff” that has been dropped on you.

You can find help “plowing” through it all at the American Cancer Society website. The website offers special sections on all types of cancer where warriors can go and read up at their own pace. Visit that website and learn more about what you are going to be battling by following this link.

In addition to this, the ACS offers you a glossary of terms that is specifically designed for “non-scientists.” Your doctors may use words that are common to them but Greek to you. First and foremost, you have the right to ask them to simplify their explanations and define the terminology.

But, you can also find out for yourself at the ACS website. Follow this link to find that glossary
