Ralpho Hartwig
Ralpho Adel Hartwig,
83, of Lincoln died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at
Vonderlieth Living Center, Mount Pulaski.
Visitation will be
from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln.
Her funeral will be
at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader.
Burial will be in
Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.
Mrs. Hartwig taught
in Mason and Logan County schools before her retirement.
She was born March 4,
1919, in Menard County to Ralph O. and Nellie Gallagher Shelton. She
married Paul Hartwig on June 17, 1940, in Rushville.
Surviving Mrs.
Hartwig are her husband, of Lincoln; one daughter, Karol (and
Robert) Richardson of Kenney; one son, Alan Hartwig of Lincoln;
three granddaughters, Terri Ratini of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Bobbi
and Katelyn Hartwig of Lincoln; one grandson, Austin Hartwig of
Lincoln; and two great-granddaughters, Emma and Molly Ratini of Fort
Pierce, Fla.
She was preceded in
death by two brothers, Zane and Orris Shelton, and one sister,
Mildred Ubbenga. She was the last of her immediate family.
She was a member of
New Holland United Methodist Church, where she taught a Sunday
school class and served as a youth leader.
She was also a leader
of the Peppy Pals 4-H club and chair of Illinois Pollettes Ways and
Means.
She attended New
Holland schools and Lincoln College.

Lois
Brown
Lois Eleanor Brown,
98, of Mason City died at 1:07 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be
from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hurley Funeral Home, 603 E. Chestnut in
Mason City.
Her funeral will be
at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church of Mason City,
with the Rev. Robert Paddack and the Rev. William Boyce officiating.
Burial will be in
Mason City Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was a
retired teacher.
She was born Nov. 17,
1904, in Sebastepol to Adolph and Emma Mueller Malan. She married
Oscar Brown on April 7, 1933, in Waterloo. He survives.
Also surviving are
one son, David L. Brown of Elgin; two grandchildren; and one sister,
Alice Smart of Westerville, Ohio.
She was preceded in
death by one brother.
She was a member of
the First Christian Church of Mason City, where she taught Sunday
school for 25 years. She was also a member of the Illinois Retired
Teachers Association and at one time was active in the Rebeccas
Lodge.
She taught at the
Shady Grove, Pocahontas and Highland schools in southern Illinois
until she was married. During World War II she taught at the
Mitchell School south of Mason City. After school consolidation, she
taught fourth grade in Mason City until she retired. She had many
fond memories of her years of teaching and the students she had in
her classes.
She was a graduate of
Greenville College, Greenville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the
First Christian Church of Mason City.
Grant Finchum
Grant Easton Finchum,
infant son of Bryan and Amber Finchum, died at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday,
Dec. 4, 2002, at BroMenn Healthcare Center, Normal.
A graveside service
will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Atlanta Cemetery.
There is no
visitation.
Arrangements are
being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home of Lincoln.
Survivors are his
parents, Bryan and Amber McClure Finchum of Atlanta; one sister,
Alexis Finchum, at home; his maternal grandparents, Bruce and Kathy
McClure of Danvers; his paternal grandparents, Fred and Susan
Finchum of Atlanta; maternal great-grandparents Emery and Lois
McClure of Danvers; and paternal great-grandparents Lewis and Ruth
Logeman of Emden and Alvin and Virginia Rohlfs of Hartsburg.
He was preceded in
death by maternal great-grandparents Kenny and Marilyn Johnson and
by paternal great-grandfather Frederick Finchum.

Edna
Dehner
Edna Elizabeth Dehner,
92, of Lincoln died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at the
Christian Village Nursing Home.
Her funeral will be
at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln.
The Rev. Richard Reinwald will officiate. Visitation will be one
hour before the service.
Burial will be in Old
Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Dehner worked
for many years in the Logan County tax assessor’s office in Lincoln.
She was born Dec. 14,
1909, in Lincoln to Edward and Flora Eberle Dehner.
A second cousin,
Verdeen (Mrs. Larry) Ingram of Lincoln, survives.
Miss Dehner was a
member of St. John United Church of Christ and its Charity Guild.
She was on the church’s finance committee for many years. She was
also a member of the Chester Woman’s Club and the Abraham Lincoln
Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
She assisted at the
Pink Shutter in Lincoln.
Memorials may be made to St. John United
Church of Christ.
Vada Fancher
Vada G. Fancher, 75,
of Roswell, Ga., formerly of Lincoln, died at 8:09 p.m. Friday, Dec.
6, 2002, at Manor Care Convalescent Center in Marietta, Ga.
Visitation will be
from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
Her funeral will be
at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Christian Church, with Tom Gerdts
officiating.
Burial will be in
Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Mrs. Fancher retired
in 1994 after 30 years as a secretary for Harris & Harris, Attorneys
at Law. She had worked for state Sen. Robert McCarthy for 15 years.
She was born Nov. 22,
1927, in Norfolk, Neb., to Walter and Glenna Compton. She married
Frank Linden Fancher on Feb. 19, 1949, in Rossville.
Surviving Mrs.
Fancher are her husband, of Roswell, Ga.; one son, James (and Lori)
Fancher of Alpharetta, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Jimmy, Tommy
and Samantha Fancher, all of Alpharetta, Ga.
She was the last of
her immediate family. She was preceded in death by two brothers and
three sisters.
She was a member of
Lincoln Christian Church, Civil Air Patrol, Legal Secretary
Association and Bloomington EA Chapter of National Order of
Battlefield Commission.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to Lincoln Christian Church.

Mark Wendell
Mark T. Wendell, 43,
of New Holland died at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital at 6:06
p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, as the result of an auto accident on
Fifth Street Road.
Visitation will be
from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Jefferson Street Christian Church in
Lincoln.
His funeral will be
at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with J.K. Jones and John
Robertson officiating.
Burial will be in
Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mr. Wendell was a
truck driver for USF Holland Freightways in Lincoln and farmed in
Sheridan Township.
He was born June 1,
1959, in Lincoln. He married Sheryl Clayton on June 19, 1982, in
Mount Pulaski.
Surviving are his
wife, of New Holland; one son, Clayton, and one daughter, Cori, both
at home; and his mother, Lorraine Fue Wendell of Lincoln.
He was preceded in
death by his father, Norman Paulus.
He was a member of
Logan County Mount Police, Logan County Underwater Search and
Recovery, National Sporting Clay Association, Harley Owners Group
Association and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
He attended Jefferson
Street Christian Church in Lincoln.
He enjoyed boating,
fishing, snowmobiling and radio-controlled airplanes.
He attended Illinois
State University for four years.
