[AUG. 17, 2002]  Dr. James Sennett, professor of philosophy at Lincoln Christian College and Seminary, wrote a paper recently published in "God Matters: Readings in the Philosophy of Religion."

Sennett’s article was commissioned by editors Raymond Martin and Christopher Barnard due to Sennett’s reputation as a scholar on Alvin Plantinga and his "reformed epistemology" doctrines. Many experts consider these doctrines some of the most important and influential doctrines in religious epistemology in the last 20 years. Sennett published a 1992 book on Plantinga’s work and edited a collection of his articles, published by Eerdmans in 1998.

"God Matters: Readings in the Philosophy of Religion" is published by Longman Press.

In addition, the fall issue of the Stone-Campbell Journal will feature an article and two book reviews by Sennett. The article, "Stopping Hume’s Stopper: A Rejection of a Traditional Attack on Natural Theology," disputes the classical arguments that deny the existence of a Creator/God.

Sennett is a graduate of Lincoln Christian Seminary, as well as Atlanta Christian College and the University of Nebraska. He joined the faculty of Lincoln Christian College and Seminary in 2001.

Announcements

[AUG. 31, 2002]  The youth group of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1140 N. State St. in Lincoln, is sponsoring a Friday night cookout and camping at the church, from 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 till 9 a.m. Sept. 7.

The event is a kickoff for Rally Sunday and is for all the congregation. Individuals, couples and families are welcome. You don’t have to spend the night to come enjoy the meal and evening.

The senior youth and junior helpers are planning the meal, games, campfire singing and other activities. Bring your lawn chairs, folding tables and frisbees. Bring harmonica, guitar or any musical instrument that travels well. Anticipate fun!

In case of rain, activities will move indoors.

Meal, drinks and tableware for supper and breakfast will be provided by the senior youth.

To stay overnight, you need to provide your own tent and sleeping supplies, such as a cot, mat, sleeping bag, pillow, flashlight and bug repellent. All children staying the night, if not of high school age or older, must be accompanied by an adult.

[AUG. 31, 2002]  Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1140 N. State St. in Lincoln, will have Rally Day on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Starting at 9 a.m. the Sunday school will be celebrating with skits, singing and promotion to new classes. Students will also make T-shirts to take home.

The service at 10 a.m. will have special music from the Sunday school and will be accompanied by the church band. All members of the community are invited to attend.
