Lincoln College softball vs. Lincoln Land

[APRIL 10, 2003]  SPRINGFIELD -- Lincoln College won a pair of softball games here Wednesday afternoon, defeating Lincoln Land 3-2 in the opener and 6-2 in the second game. The Lynx improved to 9-7 in conference play and 12-10 overall.

In the first game, Lincoln College scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning for the victory. Trailing 2-1 entering the fourth, the Lynx rally was started with a single by Norissa Stetter. JoJo Halko followed with a single, and Monica Perone came up with the big hit, a two-run single. Jen Polhemus went the distance to gain the victory with a five-hitter, striking out three and walking three.

A six-run fifth inning after two were out highlighted the second victory for Lincoln coach Allen Pickering. Stetter started the rally with a single, and Halko followed with a single. Candi Forsythe reached on an error to load the bases, and Perone singled in the first run. Jenna Clayton then reached on an error, and Cooper came off the bench to deliver a two-run double. Colleen Riley then came off the bench and delivered a run-scoring single. Beth Conner went the distance on the mound to gain the victory with a five-hitter.

Local fans take in NCAA tourney

[APRIL 10, 2003]  The University of Kansas Jayhawks strut their stuff before approximately 10,000 fans Friday afternoon in the Superdome in New Orleans, La. (photo at right). Several Lincoln and Logan County fans were on hand for the festivities but refused to pose for pictures. Lincoln resident Jerry Alberts played for Kansas and he and his teammates advanced to the Final Four some 50 years ago!
