[APRIL 12, 2003] Ushered in by children waving palm branches, Holy Week at St. John United Church of Christ this year will include the community Good Friday service and an Easter breakfast open to the public. Palm Sunday services on April 13 will begin with a procession of children waving palm branches celebrating Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. All members of the congregation will receive palm crosses. On Thursday, April 17, the church will open its doors from 6:30 to 9 p.m. for individuals to take Communion in commemoration of Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples. The table will be set with candles and the elements of bread and wine plus a suggested meditation script. Individuals can worship in their own way, following the script or not. The community Good Friday service, sponsored by the Lincoln Ministerial Association, remembers Jesus’ suffering on the cross. It is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. April 18. The Rev. Tony Shuff, associate pastor of New Wine Fellowship, will deliver the sermon, and other ministers in the association will participate in the service. Easter breakfast at 8:30-9:30 a.m. April 20 will feature pancakes, sausage links, breakfast casseroles with potato, biscuits and sausage gravy, fresh fruit, monkey bread, juice, coffee, tea, and milk. The St. John Four Seasons Committee is in charge. Donations are appreciated. Sunday School classes for ages 3 to adult start at 9 a.m. Following breakfast, Easter worship begins at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Rich Reinwald, pastor of the church, will conduct the service, including Holy Communion. The chancel choir, bell choir and adult chimes choir with Michael Schneider on the trumpet will take part in the service. [News release] [APRIL 12, 2003] Starting May 4, regular services at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sundays. Sunday School will begin at 10 a.m. The church is at 1140 N. State St. in Lincoln. Wednesday services [MARCH 18, 2003] Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Lincoln, 1140 N. State, is having Lenten services at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, March 19 and 26 and April 2 and 9. Fellowship and refreshments follow the services. A Maundy Thursday service with Communion will be at 7 p.m. April 17, and a Good Friday Tenebrae service will be at 7 p.m. April 18. On Easter Sunday, April 20, there will be an 8 a.m. service with Communion. An Easter breakfast served by the youth group will follow. The regular weekly services are on Sundays at 10 a.m., following Sunday school at 9 a.m. The public is invited to all services.
