Mustang game goes to extra inning

[JULY 3, 2003]  MOUNT PULASKI -- Lincoln's Graue Pharmacy came ready to play their Mount Pulaski hosts in Mustang League action. Both teams were hitting well early on, with Graue's Austin Kirby (3-for-3), Dillon Leslie (2-for-3) and Justin Harp (2-for-3) providing some offense for a 9-4 lead.

Alec Murphy helped his squad with a home run as Mount Pulaski came back to tie the game 9-9 in the bottom of the third.

After that it was all defense, with Graue's ace, Dillon Leslie, pitching well and Mount Pulaski's Cole Awe matching his counterpart.

Time limitations could have ended this matchup, but both teams agreed to continue play. In the extra inning Graue had the go-ahead run thrown out at the plate, with Jonathan Oberreiter applying the tag. Once again, Graue's Dillon Leslie shut down Mount Pulaski's bid to win the game.

[Brent Amidon]

Note: Amidon mentioned how good Mount Pulaski's officiating has been this season.

"I have had many parents say how professional this group of young men look and perform," he added. "Thanks, guys."
