              The Lincoln Community High 
            School speech team finished in first place at the 13-team tournament 
            in Charleston on Saturday. The team was led by varsity tournament 
            champions Audrey Beach in oratory, Katie Muck in dramatic 
            interpretation, Tom Swanson in prose, and Kasey Pepperell and Brady 
            Gerdts in humorous duet. |

              Other varsity finalists were 
              Pepperell and Brandon Davis, fourth in dramatic duet; Doug Rohrer, 
              second in dramatic interpretation; Rohrer and Lindsey Boerma, 
              second in humorous duet; Boerma, second in special occasion and 
              fifth in humorous interpretation; Pepperell, third in impromptu; 
              Erica Brickey, second in declamation and fourth in verse; Brandon 
              Davis, third in declamation; Brian Welter, third in original 
              comedy; Brittany Feese, fifth in prose; Audrey Beach, fourth in 
              radio; Tom Swanson, third in special occasion; Fay Allison, 
              seventh in special occasion; and Erica O'Neill, seventh in 
              declamation. 
              Novice tournament champions were 
              Rachel Hahn in humorous interpretation and original comedy, Sonja 
              Twist in oratory, Jill Patrick in special occasion, and Hannah 
              Snyder in extemporaneous speaking.   [to top of second column in

              Other novice finalists were Rachel 
              Kasa, second in verse and fourth in prose; Rebecca Rogers, fifth 
              in prose and verse; Andrew Kleinman, fifth in special occasion and 
              radio; Hannah Snyder, third in extemporaneous; Jill Patrick and 
              Meri Laurence, third in dramatic duet; Sonya Twist, second in 
              declamation; Daniel Ohmart, second in radio; Alex Davis, fourth in 
              radio; Brandon Rahn, second in impromptu and fourth in 
              extemporaneous; and Kathryn O'Donoghue, sixth in dramatic 
              interpretation. The speech 
              team will enjoy a weekend off before they travel to two 
              tournaments: the Heyworth novice and Bloomington tournaments.
