[SEPT. 8, 2003]  The Lincoln College men's soccer team played in the Bonanza-Domino's Pizza Classic in Lincoln over the weekend.

Saturday

East Central Community College slipped past Lincoln College 2-1 in the opening game on Saturday. Cincinnati Community College nipped South Suburban 2-1 in double overtime of the second game.

East Central scored two early goals against the Lynx and had a 2-0 lead at halftime. The Lynx scored on a penalty kick by Pat Barrett for the only scoring the second half.

"We were really flat in the beginning," said coach Ben Massena. "In the second half, we played a much better game and we actually had four or five real good shots at goal, but we couldn't get the ball in the net."

In action on Sunday, Lincoln College was scheduled to play South Suburban, with Cincinnati and East Central playing for the championship.

East Central Community College defeated Cincinnati Community College 3-0 to win the championship.

Augustin Barboza scored both of the Lincoln College goals, the first coming in the first half on a header off a free kick from Thorbjorn Rertorli. Jimmy Vongkorad had the assist on the second goal from Barboza, which came in the second half from 30 yards out.

"I was pleased with our play today," said Lincoln coach Ben Massena. "We passed the ball well, and it is good for us to be 2-1 at this point of the season."

The victory gives LC a 2-1 record.

A Thursday game in Lincoln is scheduled against Parkland.
