LINCOLN -- Dorothy E. Ball, 84, of Lincoln died Monday, July 11, 2005, at 10:30 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lincoln Christian Church. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Tom Gerdts officiating.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

She was a local elementary schoolteacher for 30 years.

She was born Oct. 9, 1920, at Fort Bliss, Texas, to Dr. Elmer D. and Marie F. Montgomery Rhoads. She married Trelby J. Ball on May 29, 1943, at Fort Riley, Kan.

She is survived by one son, James L. (and Anita) Ball of Danville, Calif.; two daughters, Janice Ball (and Ronald) Betzelberger of Lincoln and Christie Ball (and Don) Lemme of Lincoln; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jeannette Miller of San Jose, Calif.

One brother, George, preceded her in death.

She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church and the Rachel Circle, Jolly Seniors and Friendship Corner class of the church. She was also a member of Lincoln White Shrine of Jerusalem, Lincoln Woman's Club, Retired Teachers Association and served on the board for the Apple Scholarship.

She graduated from Lincoln College and the University of Illinois in Champaign.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Village, Lincoln Christian College or Lincoln Christian Church.

Darrell Lessen

LINCOLN -- A memorial service for Darrell F. Lessen will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m.

Mr. Lessen, 75, of Lincoln died July 3, 2005, at 9:18 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. His body was cremated.

He retired from Albert Services as an electrician in 2002 and formerly owned Lessen Trucking with his brother.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He was born Sept. 18, 1929, at Hartsburg to Arend "Arnie" and Lena Luken Lessen. He married Verna M. Menssen at Hartsburg on June 17, 1956.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; two brothers, Donald (and Gayle) Lessen of Beason and Gene (and Marianne) Lessen of Lincoln; and several nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patsy Gehlbach.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln, a member of American Legion Post 263 for 19 years, a member of Lincoln Elks Lodge for 38 years and a member of Logan County Farm Bureau.
